Sonic Mania
Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Sequel Confirmed For April 2022
Written Friday, July 24, 2020 By Matt Lorrigan

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (the film, not the game) has been officially confirmed to speed into cinemas in April 2022.

A sequel was confirmed back in May 2020 after the Sonic film proved wildly successful, overtaking Detective Pikachu as the biggest opening weekend of a video game adaptation in cinemas. Now, Sonic voice actor Ben Schwartz confirmed in a Tweet that the film is set to release on the 8th April 2022.

We don't know much more about the film beyond the date, so we can only speculate on the story, but we expect to see Sonic's pal Tails and possibly even Knuckles show up in some capacity.

If you're more in the mood for games, Sonic Mania is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

The first film was decent enough and a lot of fun, I just wish it had been a tad shorter :).

It was pretty clear even before the movie came out they wanted to make it a viable franchise. Hopefully they continue to do well and open the door for quality adaptations of other games.

Early Phantasy Star has lots of pulp sci-fi goodness that could work best as a miniseries, I think.

Me and my kids really enjoyed the first one, well written, funny, good special effects. glad that they fixed up Sonic. Looking forward to the next one.

I didn't know the first one did well or was any good. I didn't pay attention because I assumed it would be terrible. All I remember is them remaking it due to Sonic's poor appearance.

@4: It made well over $200 million at the global box office and would have made it to at least $300 if the pandemic hadn't struck.

EDIT: I got it wrong, the first film pulled in nearly $306 million at the box global office and was on course for $350 when the pandemic hit.
