Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 Development Won't See Long Term Impact From COVID-19
Written Tuesday, July 07, 2020 By Matt Lorrigan

Final Fantasy VII Remake developers have confirmed just how much of an impact the current COVID-19 pandemic is having on development of Part 2.

Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, Producer Yoshinori Kitase and Co-Director Naoki Hamaguchi were asked how the pandemic affected the release of the game and ongoing development.

"I am pained and saddened to see so many people around the world suffering with the virus and even losing their lives. When we set the release date for the game, nobody could have predicted a global pandemic like this, and the release of the game happening during this unprecedented situation has blindsided us," explained Kitase.

"At this current time, the team are still making the next game via remote working. Our performance will temporarily drop below 100% efficiency because of this, but I do not think there should be a big impact in the long term. I sincerely hope that Final Fantasy VII Remake can provide those who are forced to endure the stress of living under lockdown a moment of relief and enjoyment in these trying times."

While there are far more important things that video game releases, it's still good to hear that development is progressing well and we hopefully won't have to wait too much longer for the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2. The two developers were also asked about the story changes made in the remake, and although they would not be drawn to expand further on the events of the game, Kitase did say that the team is enjoying seeing fans speculation on social media, giving them "huge motivation" for the next installment.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is available now for PlayStation 4.

@#1 They have not disclosed how many parts it will be in. My best guess is at least 3, maybe 4 if they really dive into the back story. Part 1 was only 15-20% of the original game.

@1 Probably 3. First was Midgar, second will be exploring the world on foot. Third will be exploring the world in the airship. Not confirmed or anything but that's my best guess.

Thanks #3 #4 for the clarifications... I just hope they'll release them less than a year per episode. I want to play them simultaneously, reason why I ask... thanks again!
