If you were nurturing the hope that a sequel to The Order: 1886 might one day materialise, that dream has just become a lot less likely, as developer Ready At Dawn has been acquired by Facebook's Oculus Studios. Going forward, the company will be creating Oculus VR content.

This effectively spells the end of Ready At Dawn's relationship with Sony, which had given rise to great games like God of War: Chains of Olympus, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, and Daxter for PSP, as well as 2015's The Order: 1886 for PlayStation 4.

Last year, Ready At Dawn had been hiring staff for a AAA action game, which many had hoped might be a second instalment of The Order. While upon release, The Order: 1886 was criticised for a variety of shortcomings, there's no denying that it had masses of potential. Shame.

Ready At Dawn is now working on Lone Echo II for Oculus Rift, having previously made Lone Echo, Echo Arena, and Echo Combat for the platform.

Went through 'The Order: 1886' finally a few months back and I gotta say, I really, really enjoyed it. Definitely could've toned down on the dialogue/cutscenes and increased the actual playable sections but I thought it was a blast. I can see where people would be dissatisfied, though, having paid $60 for it on release.

I wonder who owns the rights to "The Order" franchise. If it's Sony then a sequel can always be passed on to another developer.

Sony really should have scooped these guys up. That game was beautiful and controlled great, literally the only complaints were the setting and the length.

I totally would've loved a sequel, The Order was great and I never understood the hate. That said, I've heard Lone Echo is one of the best games on VR rn rivalling HL Alyx, so I can't say them going all in on the VR Space is a particularly bad thing.

@3 Sony owns the rights to The Order IP. I'm with most of you. Sony should have scooped them up and had them create a sequel. I can only imagine how it would have looked on the PS5. I actually liked The Order 1886. It was a beautiful game. Just short.

This sucks. I really wanted Sony to acquire this developer as another 1st party studio
