Final Fantasy VII Remake Episodes Could Release in "Smaller Sections"

In a bid to release future episodes of Final Fantasy VII Remake faster, we could be seeing Square Enix launching "smaller sections" of the game, with Part 2 set to potentially launch "ASAP", according to Director Tetsuya Nomura. The first part of Final Fantasy VII Remake launched last month and covered the Midgar section from the 1997 original, which usually takes around 5-6 hours. The first episode in the remake is a 30-40 hour game.

Taken from the Japanese Ultimania book translated by user 'aitaikimochi' on Twitter (via VGC), Nomura apparently states "if we divide the story into large parts, it'll take longer to make. If we divide it into more detailed smaller sections, then developing it will be faster. I hope to release the next one ASAP."

From the same source, Producer Yoshinori Kitase is reported to have commented that the developer has a "general idea" of how Final Fantasy VII Remake will unfold with each episode, although nothing concrete has been decided as yet, and it's still not known how many parts Final Fantasy VII Remake will eventually encompass. "There’s speculation that it will be three parts, but we’re just doing things one step at a time," Kitase is reported as saying.

Final Fantasy VII Remake launched as a timed exclusive for PlayStation 4 on 10th April, going on to sell 3.5 million copies in just three days. Part 2 is already in development, Nomura confirmed back in November 2019, but when we'll see it is unclear. You can check out our Final Fantasy VII Remake review here.

Hopefully three parts at most. Second could be up until you get the airship. Third could be the rest of the game.

The big question I still have is would each part be like a Paid DLC update? Or would there be a physical release for each part? Hopefully the former so we can carry over data.

How is this a scam? There is over 30 hours of gameplay and if you want to get everything another 20 or so depending on skill level. Besides did you complain when it happened on the PS3? Because low and behold it did.

To be perfectly honest I'd be fine with a physical release. Especially if it included a platinum on each episode.

I wonder if they would end up doing something like what was done with the .hack series. Each "episode" is actually a full release game but your save can carry over from the first game to the second and so on. Would rather see fully fleshed "episodes" then something quick just to get it out.

This... is potentially rather bad. As a whole itll go against the 3 episode release they had planned previously, meaning the game would need to be re-written and the work done so far would need to be redesigned to accommodate the shorter segments.
Given the assets and engine are there, the space of time to the next chapter should be no more then about a year depending how much prep work had been done before the games release.
Having too many chapters will make people less likely to continue returning to the game regardless, making each release following the normal formula of diminishing returns.
They they're considering this also smells of them trying to nickle and dime player more.
Going for the shorter route could really damage the game going forwards, hell the £60 price tag is already too steep for the first chapter.

Each of these being the same length of this one is perfectly fair to charge $60 a pop. The plat took me close to 70 hours. I don't think it should go more than 3 parts though. One a year or year and a half would be solid. You for sure get your moneys worth here.

I'm over 40 hours in and still have 3 chapters left. Some of that might have been idle time, but the timer stops counting after a while idle. Took my time and collected everything I could in each chapter. Length wise it's been great, don't see the problem.

I think 3 parts is being naive, its going to be more than that and SE will dick around a drag it out for years to come.
