Announced back in March 2019, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a stealth-action adventure slated for launch next year, and for the first time since that initial reveal, developer Daedalic Entertainment has offered up some additional details on the game, including confirmation of console platforms.

Turns out, the Gollum game will be making its way to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, as well as PC, and promises a unique take on the Lord of the Rings character, portrayed in the Peter Jackson movies by Andy Serkis. However, this particular version of Gollum won't resemble Serkis, while the game will delve into deeper Middle-earth lore.

That means characters like Legolas' father Thranduil will put in an appearance, according to an in-depth look at The Lord of the Rings: Gollum in the latest issue of Edge magazine (via US Gamer). Playing as Gollum, you'll be tasked with sneaking your way around well-known Middle-earth regions like Barad-Dur in Mordor, evading Ringwraiths and other enemies.

While Daedalic's vision of The Lord of the Rings is "less cool" than the movie rendition, according to Art Director Mathias Fischer, the studio is looking to deliver its own fresh take on Tolkien's lore and the creatures that inhabit the world. Here's hoping for more info and gameplay soon. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is set to hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC sometime in 2021.

Totally play as Gollum, depending on how it is set up in terms of stealth/action!

Yeah, because what fans really want is ANOTHER stealth / deception oriented LOTR game.

We totally did not get enough running circles around orcs with the intelligence and awareness of potatoes in the "Shadow of Mordor / War."

Fans TOTALLY wouldn't want anything like a Skyrim-style RPG set in the Tolkien universe. Right? Right?

In all seriousness, I wouldn't mind playing as a Gollum-like creater. But only as a character class among many other choices ...

Tbh, as long as this is based around how gollum becomes gollum then it could be quite interesting.

I was planning on pre-ordering every single launch window PS5 tile but not to keen on a stealth game. We'll see what gameplay looks like before I crap on it be cause the game does have promise if the story is good.

@ #8 -- That in clown world, early adopters are unpaid beta testers.

If you want to pay a premium for broken, bug-filled garbage and the frustrating experience of playing something while it is being patched and re-patched months to years, by all means buy games at launch.

If you want a polished, "final version" game experience that is not constantly being tweaked and "fixed," wait till the GOTY edition comes out the following year and they've rolled out the patches for that.

The same goes for consoles. To wit, BF4 MP -- the only game I bought at PS4 launch and primarily for MP -- was broken at launch and remained broken and nigh unplayable due to rubber-banding and network issues for weeks after.

Anyway, to each his own. I expect a stable game experience and frustration over bugs / glitches / patches detracts from my enjoyment a great deal. So I will be waiting on anything PS5 -- probably till they launch the "slim" version at a discount. I've got a lot of PS4 games backlogged anyway.

I buy things at launch because it's cheaper because I take full advantage of EB Games trade promotions. Do you think you can purchase a PS4 PRO and a PSVR brand new from a big box store for $250CAD total right now? I don't think so because that's what I paid back in 2016 was $250CAD for my PS4 PRO and PSVR at launch paid in full because I used their awesome trade in programs. 2017-2020 I've pre-ordered over 216 games which would have totaled well over $28,411.29CAD and only paid just over $2,945CAD because I take full advantage of trade promotions. EB Games Canada has had the same trade promtion since the launch of the PS4 console of trade in 3 games of a minimum $10 and get any new release title of $79.99 for free. So, Maybe I am stupid and haven't learned anything but I get killer deals and will not even see those prices for 5-6 years later. So, Ya maybe you should learn about what kind of deals for launch items before you speak because even PS+ I've only paid $175 since it launched and I'm good until March 2021 which means almost 11 years and if you work out the amount it comes to $15.90 per year.

Highly unlikely. Hows else is most properties going to make money. Especially if they are done making movies? Last time I checked there's not money in books anymore and the only viable option is video games. What these licenses need to do is get a proper studio to make their games like SONY did with Insomniac ans Spider-man.
