Control, Death Stranding Lead Nominations in The Game Awards 2019
Written Wednesday, November 20, 2019 By Ben Borthwick

Annual awards slash reveal show The Game Awards has announced the nominations for the 2019 edition, showcasing a number of titles hoping for gongs at this year's shindig with a hefty eight nominations for Remedy's Control and nine for Death Stranding.

Remedy's third person action shooter is up for, to name but a few, Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Action/Adventure and two awards in the Best Performance category for lead Courtney Hope as Jesse Faden and Matthew Poretta as Dr Casper Darling. Death Stranding meanwhile is up for many of the same gongs but is also in contention for Best Music.

They're not exactly up against easy competition of course, with games like this year's remake of Resident Evil 2 picking up four nominations itself in a few of the same categories. Elsewhere the excellent The Outer Worlds is up for contention in the Game of the Year, Best Narrative and Best RPG, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice picked up an equally impressive five nominations including Best Game Direction.

The Game Awards 2019 themselves will take place in the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles on the 12th December, and will be hosted, as ever, by the creator of the awards and Kojima-mate Geoff Keighley. Tradition also dictates we can probably expect a few reveals and new trailers during that show as well which we'll no doubt report on here as soon as we can after they happen. Until then, you can vote for your picks to win trophies via social media as detailed on the official website.

And Days Gone gets crapped on again. To be perfectly honest I enjoyed it a lot and the things that people crapped on like the motorbike controls and repetitiveness I found not to be a problem because the world was designed to be worthy of exploring and actually felt the bike's controls to be good and never had any problems with them.

"Best Esports Player" is a ridiculous award.

I'm glad somebody else pointed this out. I've been bashing the site a little to much to point it out. So I just posted out my comment about Days Gone.

I never really follow the game awards and now i know why, What a joke. Days Gone is one of the greatest games ive ever played and it doesn't have a single nomination.

Dang. This list of nominees looks as thin/pathetic as the 2020 MLB HOF nominees. The Sports/Racing is the biggest joke. NFS Heat must have released too late.

@6

Didn’t NFS Heat come out at the same time as Death Stranding??

I’ll be disappointed is RE2 doesn’t win anything.

And it’s good to see Rainbow Six Siege up for an award, big fan of the game and even after 4 years the continued support is amazing, shows Ubisoft actually got one thing right.

@2 Day Gone got "crapped on" just like they "crapped on" the North American Gamer, making the Steelbook Edition exclusive to Europe. I was so looking foward to this, nut when that happened, I refused to buy it. They will get no $ from me. I speak with my wallet. I have enough games to play.

#8 Ubisoft quite often crap on the eu gamers with steelbook editions, so I can't say I feel too bad for you.

It did come out at the same time but Death Stranding had far more buzz and Need for Speed likely fell under most gamers' radar. Also Jeff has a man crush for anything Hideo. I seriously call BS on the racing and sports category being lumped together anyways. Like is there not enough games to make 2 different categories? This would have been my list:

Best Racing Game:
Need For Speed Heat
Dirt Rally 2.0
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled
Sonic Team Racing
GRID

Best Sports Game:
F1 2019 (I forgive this game being in this category because this is a professional sport)
NASCAR HEAT 4 (again professional sport)
MLB 19 The Show
eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer 2020
NBA 2K20

It seems to me like all of the game award events are a waste of time these days and never nominate the games that actually deserve it :(. All these Esports awards are a complete joke and shouldn't be there in the first place.

I'm really annoyed that NMS is only up for Best VR game, when it should also be up for the Best Ongoing Game and Best Community Support awards as well.

I don't know why Control is even on this list, because it's a boring trainwreck with more bugs than gameplay and I don't know anyone who actually likes it.

These awards are always a joke. And I'm sure most awards are paid for. It's all fake news
