NieR: Automata
Platinum's Secret Project Will Be "Unlike Anything Else", Says Inaba

Platinum Games has made a name for itself creating unique action titles, from Bayonetta to Vanquish, NieR Automata and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the Japanese developer more often than not delivers the goods. But the studio's next game is apparently aiming to be even more ambitious - something "truly unlike anything else."

“2019 will be an incredibly important year for us. Without speaking directly to the number of titles we may or may not announce, I can say it’s going to be a year of some major new approaches, new challenges and new methods for us," Platinum studio head Atsushi Inaba told VGC. "Basically, we’re building a new foundation that in later years will pay dividends. For us, new challenges are going to be very important."

Apparently, one of Platinum's games that it currently has in production will "turn the action genre on its head" Inaba revealed back in 2018, but its 'secret project' promises to be something very different. "Right now we’re in the middle of designing something that has never been done before," Inaba added. "I know a lot of people say that, but the game we’re working on truly is unlike anything else."

Whether that game - or any of the others - will make their way to PlayStation 4 is unknown, but with NieR Automata launching as a timed exclusive for PS4 in 2017, we're holding out hope that they do.

Although we won't see it on PS4, Bayonetta 3 must be one of the games they are talking about. I wish the secret game was Vanquish 2! That would be awesome!

@1 It's highly improbable that the "Secret Project" will be a current IP. This wouldn't be the "something that has never been done before", as Vanquish HAS already been done.

Whatever it is, it has my attention, as that was their intention.

Bayonetta 3 has already been announced though, so it's not that.

As long as we're still getting Babylon, I'm good. I like PG and I hope their future games come to PS4. However, they seem to favor Nintendo over everyone these days. Giving them exclusives like Wonderful 101, Bayo 2 (I know Nintendo funded them), Bayo 3, and this new Astral Chain game. Hopefully whatever game it's multiplat.

Well one of the games is Bayonetta 3 and the PS4 exclusive Granblue Fantasy: Relink which they are co-developing the game with Cygames.

@9 PG was done with Granblue for a while now. Their contract ended and Cygames is completing.

@7 Vanquish is one of my favorite games on last gen. Sure it’s hard, and platinum was imposible for most people, but fantastic game overall. Such a shame that not that many prople played it...
