Detroit: Become Human, Beyond: Two Souls, and Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream has had a minority stake in the French studio acquired by Chinese company NetEase. This not only enables Quantic Dream to remain independent, but also bolsters the studio's coffers.

Injecting funds into the studio means that it could develop games for multiple formats in the future, rather than making titles only for Sony and PlayStation platforms, according to co-founder and CEO David Cage. It's worth noting that prior to Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream had previously developed its games for multiple platforms.

"The landscape of the gaming industry will go through major evolutions in the coming years, with new hardware to come, new business models to explore and new ways of playing to invent," said Cage. "We want Quantic Dream to take a key role in this exciting future and having NetEase by our side as a strategic partner will allow us to expand our creative vision and develop the company to its fullest potential. NetEase understands what Quantic is about as they share our passion for high quality games and our ambitions for the studio."

This isn't the first time NetEase has invested in a video game developer, with the company previously acquiring a minority stake in Destiny dev Bungie, and working with Blizzard on the upcoming Diablo game for mobile. Presumably, this latest investment isn't the "great news" that Quantic Dream announced earlier this month. We're still waiting on that.
