Agent Trademark Has Been Officially Ditched by Take-Two

Take-Two has abandoned the trademark Agent, which was originally going to be an exclusive PlayStation 3 stealth game from Rockstar and was announced back at E3 in 2009.

The trademark was abandoned due to Rockstar either saying they don't intend to use it anymore or that they just simply failed to request for an extension after notice of allowance was issued. Either way, now we know for sure that the project is officially dead, there was still a little glimmer of hope after the trademark was renewed a few times in the past but it looks as though Rockstar is now done.

Although we knew nothing about this game other then what the logo looked like, it is a shame to see that it's now been binned altogether as it would've been interesting to see a new spy espionage game break into the market. Well, at least we still have Red Dead Redemption 2 to keep us busy.

I'm not particularly surprised by this, given how little information was ever given about this game, and I mean even looking at the articles on this site shows how little info was made available on this game that will never be.

Just four articles with rather large spaces between the second, third and fourth;

I think that over 2 year gap followed by an almost 3 year gap should've been a giveaway this game was dead, even The Last Guardian had frequent announcements that it was still in development during the period of development hell that made it go from a launch era PS3 title to a mid generation PS4 title.

It's possible that they're giving the project to another studio but I would like to see Rockstar do something different.

Rockstar were deep in development on this, then something happened and they were forced to scrap everything and move onto something else.

@2 If they let the trademark expire, I highly doubt they gave what they had done to another studio to finish, the more likely scenario is that it was just scrapped for reasons unknown. Whether it was budget issues, or something else only the people at Rockstar know and more than likely will never divulge the reason why, as is the case with most abandoned games.

There is still the chance they would release a game similar to what Agent would've been sometime in the future, but I think it's safe to say that Agent is scrapped.
