An addictive throwback to the original Survival Horror games of yesteryear, Vaccine tests your patience, your memory, and your will to survive. An experiment has gone horribly wrong, and you and your partner are now stuck in a house plagued with rotting corpses and zombie-like enemies. If that wasn’t enough, your partner went and got infected with the disease! It’s now up to you to traverse the house and find a vaccine to save him or else you both will die.

THE BASICS

Since the game has very little instructions on what you actually need to do, I will try and cover everything here.

Vaccine plays with traditional Tank Controls. When you hit , your character will always move forward, no matter what angle the camera is at. Because of this, do not use the .

CONTROLS:
- Interact / Open Doors / Pickup Items
- Sprint / Cancel
- Reload
- Draw weapon
+ - Attack (Swing Knife / Shoot Gun)
+ + - Attack Down (for crawling enemies)
+ + - Attack up (for flying enemies)

ITEMS:

These are the items that you can pickup during your survival adventure:

DROPS IN EVERY HOUSE:

  • Knife (At the very start, by the foot of the bed)
  • 9mm Pistol (location is random)
  • Shotgun (location is random)
  • Custom 9mm Pistol (Drops off the final boss in the lab)
  • Gold Key (location is random – unlocks Gold locks)
  • Silver Key (location is random – unlocks Silver locks)
  • Vaccine (located in the lab with the final boss)

RANDOM ITEMS:

  • Repellent – Prevents you from being hit by enemies for a few seconds. This is especially useful with the enemies that crawl. If you do not have a gun, repellent is needed for you to kill them with a knife.
  • Chewing Gum – Relaxes you. Every now and then, especially if you move in too many different directions quickly, you will go into a “confused state” where you cannot move for about five seconds. Use Chewing Gum to go to a relaxed state so you can move again.
  • Energy Bar – These max out your Stamina and keep it maxed out (even while sprinting) for about five seconds. This will allow you to sprint/run further without having to stop and walk to get your Stamina back up.
  • 9MM/Shotgun Ammo – Ammo for each of the two guns available in the game. Note that ammo may be available for pickup BEFORE you actually pick up any of the guns in the game.
  • Health Packs – There are two different Health Packs; Red (small) and Green (large). The Red will heal between 3-10 HP and the Green will heal between 20-30 HP. Only use these when you absolutely need to. If you find the Vaccine (and return it to your partner), your health will automatically fully refill at the start of the next run.
  • Proximity Mine – Honestly, these are useless. It’s a small mine you place on the ground that takes three seconds to arm (it will beep three times, very loudly). Once it is armed, any enemy that comes into contact with it will be damaged by its explosion. The walking enemies can easily just be killed with a knife and it’s too much of a pain to try and get the crawling enemies to hit these so it’s best to just leave them alone.

STATS

There are five stats you level up as you play through the game. These are leveled with XP.

  • DETERMINATION: This is the first one you want to focus on leveling. It increases the damage dealt with your knife and the speed at which you attack. At the start of the game, the walking enemies will take between 5-6 hits to kill. At max, they will take 3-4 hits. NOTE: Even at max level, you will not be able to kill the crawling enemies with a knife without the repellent!
  • STAMINA: The length of time you can Sprint. The higher your Stamina level, the longer you can Sprint. You want to make sure this is full by the start of the third run so you can quickly navigate through the house.
  • HEALTH: This is a little misleading because it doesn’t actually give you more health, if anything it gives you more armor. Leveling this up will decrease the damage you take by enemies. Level this up after Determination and Stamina are full.
  • AIMING: Increase the damage done with your guns. This will be more useful from the third run and on since at that point, you will be sprinting and shooting your way through the house. This should be the third stat you level up.
  • LUCK: Increase the item “drop” rate. More items will appear in rooms throughout the house. This should be the last stat you level up.

GENERAL GAMEPLAY

RANDOM HOUSES: Each time you start a new game, the house you play in will be randomly generated. There is no pattern to the layout. There is no set number of maps available. It is 100% random.

INVENTORY/STATS: When you complete a Vaccine run, all your stats and inventory carry over to the next run. For this reason, save your ammo, energy bars, and (if possible) health packs until the third run (and on).

MYSTERY RUN: If you are trying to solve the mystery of the house, you will be doing three Vaccine runs. The first needs to be completed in 30 minutes or less, the second in 20 minutes or less, and the third in 10 minutes or less. See Mystery Solved for more details on this.

ENDLESS RUN: If you are not trying to solve the mystery of the house, the game will endlessly loop until you die. The first run needs to be completed in 30 minutes or less, the second in 20 minutes or less, and the third in 10 minutes or less. At this point, each successful run will cut 30 seconds off the clock. This continues until you die. See Undead for more details on this.

XP: You earn XP by killing enemies and opening/closing doors. You earn more XP with the knife than with the guns since it will take longer to kill the enemies. You earn 1 XP for opening a door and 1 XP for closing it.

SAVE FILE: There are no save files for this game. You play until you die (or solve the mystery), and then you start over. There is no option to “continue” from the Main Menu.

MAP: There is no map feature in the game. Because of this, you will need to remember the way you took to get to the Vaccine and navigate your way back to your partner. It is recommended that you keep all the doors leading back to your partner open while closing any doors that lead to dead ends/wrong ways, etc. If done correctly, you will have a clear path back to your partner once you find the Vaccine.

DOORS AND ENEMIES: Fortunately for you, the invention of doors is the downfall of the enemies in the game, including the final boss. You can lure an enemy towards a doorway and shut a door right before the pass through. You can then attack them through the door, but they cannot attack you. This can be done with all enemies, but is most beneficial to use on the final boss. Video Guide.

Step 1: Solve the Mystery of the House

This step will require three Vaccine runs. When you start each run, knife the clock in the bedroom you start in. You will know when you hit it because a shockwave animation will happen. This will initiate the puzzles, allowing you to solve the mystery. From here, you will need to find the puzzle box in each house and solve them. At the end of the third Vaccine run, there will be an additional clock for you to hit with your knife to start the final dash to save your partner. See Mystery Solved for more tips and a sample video showing this mystery being solved.

After this step, you will earn:

  • First Casualty
  • Rat
  • Bat
  • Mystery Solved

Step 2: Endless Run

The rest of the trophies will need to be done in ONE GAME. You will need to get to Vaccine run 8 without dying. If you die, you will need to start over at Vaccine run 1. You do not need to worry about solving any puzzles or hitting the clock, you just need to worry about finding the Vaccine and saving your partner. For more tips and videos showing these runs being completed, please see Spider and Undead. Once you have completed your 8th Vaccine run, you will earn the following:

  • Spider
  • Snake
  • Wolf
  • Crocodile
  • Shark
  • Undead

[PST would like to thank Velvet for this Roadmap]

Rat
Obtain the rank Rat.

You receive the Rat rank after completing the first Vaccine run, with or without completing any puzzles. You have to do this in 30 minutes or less. You can use the gun if you would like, but you should be able to kill most of the enemies you come across with just the knife. The trophy will unlock once you return the Vaccine to your partner.

If you need a reference, Spider and Mystery Solved both have videos showing this rank being earned. Just note that the houses are randomly generated, so your house will be different than that shown.

Bat
Obtain the rank Bat.

You receive the Bat rank after completing the second Vaccine run, with or without completing any puzzles. You must first receive the Rat rank – you cannot get Bat without it. You have to complete your second Vaccine run in 20 minutes or less. Your stats and inventory will all carry over from the first run, but it is recommended you save your ammo for the third vaccine run (and on). The trophy will unlock once you return the Vaccine to your partner.

If you need a reference, Spider and Mystery Solved both have videos showing this rank being earned. Just note that the houses are randomly generated, so your house will be different than that shown.

Spider
Obtain the rank Spider.

You must first receive the Rat and Bat ranks before you can get the Spider rank (they must all be done in the same game). You receive the Spider rank by completing the third Vaccine run without completing any puzzles. You need to do this in 10 minutes or less. Your stats and inventory will all carry over from the previous runs. At this time, you can start using your gun more freely to kill enemies. Use to sprint quickly through the house (if you do not have your Stamina stat maxed out, using Energy Bars will max out your Stamina for about 5 seconds). The trophy will unlock once you return the Vaccine to your partner.

Here is a video showing this trophy being earned, but please note that since the houses are all randomly generated for each Vaccine run, your house will look different. This is just for a reference.

Snake
Obtain the rank Snake.

You must first receive the Rat, Bat, and Spider ranks before you can get the Snake rank. All of these must be done in the same game.

To earn the Snake rank, you need to complete the fourth Vaccine run. You do not need to complete any puzzles or anything for this, so focus only on finding the Vaccine and returning it to your partner. This run must be done in 9 Minutes and 30 Seconds or less.

Please see Undead for tips as well as a video showing this rank being earned. Please note that the video provided is an example. Since the houses are randomly generated each Vaccine run, it will not match the house you are given.

Wolf
Obtained the rank Wolf.

You must first receive the Rat, Bat, Spider, and Snake ranks before you can get the Wolf rank. All of these must be done in the same game.

To earn the Wolf rank, you need to complete the fifth Vaccine run. You do not need to complete any puzzles or anything for this, so focus only on finding the Vaccine and returning it to your partner. This run must be done in 9 Minutes or less.

Please see Undead for tips as well as a video showing this rank being earned. Please note that the video provided is an example. Since the houses are randomly generated each Vaccine run, it will not match the house you are given.

Crocodile
Obtain the rank Crocodile.

You must first receive the Rat, Bat, Spider, Snake, and Wolf ranks before you can get the Crocodile rank. All of these must be done in the same game.

To earn the Crocodile rank, you need to complete the sixth Vaccine run. You do not need to complete any puzzles or anything for this, so focus only on finding the Vaccine and returning it to your partner. This run must be done in 8 Minutes and 30 Seconds or less.

Please see Undead for tips as well as a video showing this rank being earned. Please note that the video provided is an example. Since the houses are randomly generated each Vaccine run, it will not match the house you are given.

Shark
Obtain the rank Shark.

You must first receive the Rat, Bat, Spider, Snake, Wolf, and Crocodile ranks before you can get the Shark rank. All of these must be done in the same game.

To earn the Shark rank, you need to complete the seventh Vaccine run. You do not need to complete any puzzles or anything for this, so focus only on finding the Vaccine and returning it to your partner. This run must be done in 8 Minutes or less.

Please see Undead for tips as well as a video showing this rank being earned. Please note that the video provided is an example. Since the houses are randomly generated each Vaccine run, it will not match the house you are given.

Undead
Obtain the rank Undead.

You must first receive the Rat, Bat, Spider, Snake, Wolf, Crocodile, and Shark ranks before you can get the Undead rank. All of these must be done in the same game.

To earn the Undead rank, you need to complete the eighth Vaccine run. You do not need to complete any puzzles or anything for this, so focus only on finding the Vaccine and returning it to your partner. This run must be done in 7 Minutes and 30 Seconds or less.

All your stats and inventory will carry over each run. After the third Vaccine run (Spider rank), you should have more than enough ammo to breeze through the remaining 5 Vaccine runs. It is recommended you try and use only one gun each Vaccine run so you can save up ammo for the other (you will have the Custom 9MM Pistol and the Shotgun). You don’t have to worry about picking up anything except for the Ammo packs and Energy Bars.

All your stats should be maxed out by the end of the third Vaccine Run so both the Custom 9MM and the Shotgun will one shot all the enemies (except for the final boss).

Use the Open door method outlined in the Roadmap to navigate your way to the Vaccine and back to your partner. Not having to figure out which way to go while running back to your partner can save you precious seconds.

With the one-shot capability and the maxed Stamina stat, you will easily be able to complete the later runs (4-8) within about 5 minutes each, though most likely less.

Here is a video showing this trophy being earned. Please note that since the houses are randomly generated, yours will not match exactly, this is just to use as a reference while playing.

Mystery solved
Solve the mystery of the house.

Solving the mystery of the house involves completing the first three Vaccine runs while completing all the puzzles along the way. At the start of each of the three runs, hit the clock with the knife to initiate the puzzle runs.

Each Vaccine run has 1 puzzle box randomly placed somewhere in the house. It’s a small gray box with a green light beam emitting from it. To solve the puzzles, you need to place all the circle buttons next to each other. If there are any Red buttons (either a – or +), you cannot place any circles next to it.

The first run you need to save your partner in 30 minutes or less, the second run in 20 minutes or less, and the third run in 10 minutes or less. For the third run, it is recommended you find the lab and Vaccine with at least 4-5 minutes left on the clock. The reason is listed just below.

At the end of the third run when you find the lab, kill the final boss and pickup the Vaccine. Before you leave the lab, you will notice a green light emitting from one of the walls. There will be a small room here. Go inside and you will see another clock. You need to hit the clock with the knife and very quickly run back to your partner with the Vaccine. The countdown clock will speed up tremendously as soon as you hit the clock, so you need to Sprint as fast as you can. Due to this, it is highly recommended you use the “Open Door” method outlined in the Roadmap for navigating.

When you get back to the starting room, a ghost of the final boss will be standing by the bed. Ignore him and run up to the bed to give your partner the Vaccine, ending the third run and earning you the trophy.

Here is a video for this trophy, but please note that since the houses are randomly generated each Vaccine run, your house will not match this layout.

First casualty
First casualty

This is earned by killing your first enemy. Since you need to kill enemies to gain XP, this will unlock on your first Vaccine run.
