Introduction:

NightCry is a Kickstarted survival horror adventure game developed by Nude Maker and published by Playism Games/AGM Playism, originally released in 2016 and ported to Vita in 2019 but is considered the spiritual successor to the PS1/PS2 Clock Tower games due to being written and directed by that series' creator, Hifumi Kono. It's a decent enough throwback to the feel of Clock Tower – graphics, bad camera angles and all but bugs and a ton of loading screens kill most of the scares and atmosphere you would likely get from it. On the upside, it's a relatively easy Platinum for a survival horror game.

It is important to keep two things in mind while playing:

1) This is the type of game where you usually need to talk to someone/interact with something multiple times before progress is actually made. Just because you've talked to someone once does not mean you've met a condition like "talk to the person and then you'll be able to leave the room". Pay attention to what the game is telling you!

2) This game has Japanese-style controls: is your action button and is your cancel button.

There is an autosave system in the game that isn't the best but at least it's something. You will also be able to make saves in designated spots – whenever you come across phone chargers. Whenever you load a save, check your inventory, because sometimes the autosave actually puts you further into your progress than you think based on where the game has spawned you (the autosaves are tied to specific locations in the game and are not progress-based).

Once you have unlocked any ending, selecting "Load Data" will take you to a flowchart, allowing you to access chapters and scenes you've already cleared. Scrolling past the entire flowchart will still allow you to continue from the last autosave, which is helpful in ending/horror/game over cleanup during your initial playthrough. Keep in mind that there are multiple "Chapter X, Scene X" nodes; the ones you care about with regard to the are the YES (blue) lines, all of which lead to the true ending.

Useful Links:

Walkthrough by TheWalkthroughKing – this will get you all endings, horrors, and game overs. Basically, it will get you every trophy on the list except for Sacrifice.

Endings Flowchart by Red July – there's more than one way to get all of the bad endings. This is a copy of the in-game flowchart showing you exactly when each can be unlocked but is more for if you want to play the game without a walkthrough.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Play through the game for the true ending

See Sacrifice for a list of the majority of key actions you need to do in the game, in order, to get to the true ending of the game (actually unlocking Sacrifice is not required to get the true ending). The only thing left off of that list is to translate the diary in the captain's quarters, find the picture in the owner's quarters, find the Eye of Kassites in the owner's quarters' safe and equip it during the final confrontation. Getting the true ending will unlock all of the chapters and scenes you need to clean up the rest of the game.

En route to the true ending, you are likely to unlock some of the collectibles (endings/game overs/horrors) trophies just by playing, regardless of whether or not you're following a walkthrough. For simplicity's sake, they're all listed in Step 2 of this walkthrough.

By the end of this step, you will have earned (at least):

The Nightmare Begins
The Scissorwalker Appears
Rock Paper Scissors
Face Your Fears
Those who have seen the End

Step 2: Endings/Horrors/Game Overs cleanup

See each trophy for more information. On the main menu, select Load Game and load whatever chapter and scene the horror/game over/ending you're missing is located in (this is where the flowchart in the Introduction helps, as there are multiple ways to get most of the endings) and unlock whatever you're missing.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Welcome to NightCry
Mystery
Suicidal Ideation
To Wish To Die
Mystery Of The Year
Mystery Of The Century
Deathwish Diva
Those who have gained Finality
Sacrifice
Those who have gained Eternity

...and finally: NightCry ! Congratulations!

[PST Would Like To Thank themindisacity for this Roadmap]

NightCry
You unlocked all trophies

Congratulations!

Welcome to NightCry
You arrived at a Dead End

You will unlock this naturally on your way to most of the trophies on this list. This will unlock the first time you die.

Those who have seen the End
You have seen one ENDING

See Those who have gained Eternity.

Those who have gained Finality
You have seen 4 ENDINGs

See Those who have gained Eternity.

Those who have gained Eternity
You have seen all ENDINGs

There are eight endings in NightCry. In the order they can be obtained (different from the listed order in the game):

  1. A face floating on waves – Chapter 1, Scene 2 – do not post on SNS before going through the door in the top part of the bar/cafe
  2. It's all too late – Chapter 2, Scene 2 – do not use the non-slip gloves when trying to go down the well
  3. Purgatory – Chapter 3, Scene 3 – you will receive Eric's Medicine (antibiotics). Do not give them to Monica. This ending will unlock near the beginning of Chapter 3, Scene 4.
  4. Seduced by the snake – Chapter 3, Scene 4 – you will come across Leonard on life support in the hospital. Do not turn off his life support.
  5. Pre-established harmony – Chapter 3, Scene 5 – you will find Angie in the clothes store. Do not give her the wedding ring (Monica must have found it in Chapter 1 and given it to Rooney in Chapter 3). This ending will unlock early in Chapter 3, Scene 6.
  6. Trap party – Chapter 3, Scene 6 – either do not translate the diary in the captain's quarters, or do not find the old photograph in the drawer in the owner's quarters (either works).
  7. The lone survivor – Chapter 3, Scene 6 – successfully navigate through the game, have the Eye of Kassites in your inventory but do not use it on yourself during the final confrontation (or just never get the Eye of Kassites)
  8. Two Survivors – Chapter 3, Scene 6 – successfully navigate through the game, have the Eye of Kassites in your inventory and use it on yourself during the final confrontation

You can check your progress on this whenever you're on the Main Menu → History → Ending.

Mystery
You have seen one HORROR

See Mystery of the Century.

Mystery Of The Year
You have seen 50% of HORROR content

See Mystery of the Century.

Mystery Of The Century
You have seen all HORROR content

There are eleven horror events in NightCry. These are short little jump-scare moments peppered throughout the game. Most of them trigger automatically but some require interaction with the environment. In the order they can be obtained (different from the listed order in the game):

  1. Chapter 1, Scene 1 – shopping – a girl runs by
  2. Chapter 1, Scene 1 – shopping – cans fall off a shelf
  3. Chapter 1, Scene 2 – cafe – moving bushes in background (change the camera angle to face the bar then back to the plants and it should trigger)
  4. Chapter 2, Scene 1 – cave mirror room – arms emerging from the hanging clothes (buggy; before or after fixing mask; seems random. I had to replay the scene and tried approaching the bonfire and entering/exiting the mirror room before this popped up in my list, and I'm pretty sure they never even actually came out of the wall. Suddenly it was just in my horror list)
  5. Chapter 2, Scene 2 – tunnel – arms emerging from the red walls (after going down the well)
  6. Chapter 3, Scene 1 – bathroom – hand dryer runs on its own (you need to look at it)
  7. Chapter 3, Scene 1 – bathroom – severed head in toilet
  8. Chapter 3, Scene 1 – clothing store – mannequin head falls off (look at it, then change the camera angle a few times)
  9. Chapter 3, Scene 1 – movie theater – Theater 1 door has someone crying (interact with door a few times)
  10. Chapter 3, Scene 1 – bar – the jukebox will play itself (this one might actually trigger automatically the first time you meet Scissorwalker in Jerome's room)
  11. Chapter 3, Scene 4 – deck balcony – screaming/falling body (look at railing to trigger)

You can check your progress on this whenever you're on the Main Menu → History → Horror.

Suicidal Ideation
You experienced GAME OVER

See Deathwish Diva.

To Wish To Die
You unlocked 50% of GAME OVER content

See Deathwish Diva.

Deathwish Diva
You unlocked all GAME OVER content

There are 25 different unique game overs (deaths) you can unlock over the course of the game – you'll be greeted with "DEAD END" at the end of each of them. In the order they can be obtained (different from the listed order in the game):

Chapter 1, Scene 1

  • Hallway – fail the service cart QTE
  • Laundry Room – hide in one of the machines. Scissorwalker needs to be close enough to you that he sees you enter. Alternately, hide in the same machine twice during two different chases.
  • Shopping Area – either hide behind the counter when Scissorwalker is close enough to you to see you do it, or use this same hiding spot twice during two different chases.
  • Elevator – do nothing when the lights go out

Chapter 1, Scene 2

  • Cafe/Bar – go through the door upstairs without turning on the light on your phone

Chapter 2, Scene 1

  • Outside – get caught by the flashlight at the intersection on the way to the first cabin
  • Cabin - radio any station other than Channel 12 x3
  • Cave – get caught by the flashlight at the intersection near the gong
  • Cave – in the mirror room, walk away from the mirror after looking at the mask piece
  • Cave – bonfire – the way this one is SUPPOSED to work is that you need to walk out to the bonfire from the cave without wearing the mask. The game won't let you do this for some reason. Instead, put on the mask, bypass the bonfire until you get to the next cabin and enter it, taking off the mask. Immediately turn around and go back outside to the bonfire, then walk towards the screen like you're going back into the cave and you'll trigger this game over.

Chapter 2, Scene 2

  • Cabin – get Will Anderson's phone number, then call it while you're still in the room his phone is in (may first need to look out the opposite door to realize there's a guard standing outside)
  • Cabin – in the loft, use the rope with the pillar next to the open window without calling Will Anderson's number first
  • Well – climb down the well without equipping the gloves first
  • Well – in the tunnel, walk into the hands without lighting the hand of glory first
  • Well – in the tunnel, walk into the hands with a lit hand of glory, but then fail the QTE

Chapter 3, Scene 1

  • Jerome's Room – either hide under the bed when Scissorwalker is close to you, or hide under the bed twice during separate chases (can also be done in Scene 5)
  • Public Bathroom – either hide in a toilet stall when Scissorwalker is close to you, or hide in the same stall twice during separate chases (can also be done in Scene 5)
  • Theater 3 – either hide in the theater seats when Scissorwalker is close to you, or hide behind the same seats twice during separate chases (can also be done in Scene 5)
  • Child's Room – examine the crib then fail to grab the shelves when you're attacked
  • Game Room – fail the QTE when the darts are thrown at you

Chapter 3, Scene 2

  • Storage Area – walk around until a crate drops towards you, then fail the QTE
  • Storage Area (different from above) 2 – fail the conveyor belt QTE

Chapter 3, Scene 3

  • Ladder Room – go up Ladder 12 and crawl through that air vent
  • Ladder Room – go up Ladder 13 and either ignore the first vent completely, or look at the first vent and fail the QTE

Chapter 3, Scene 4

  • Bloody Elevator – pick up Card Key A, then fail the QTE

There are no game overs in Chapter 3, Scene 5 or 6.

You can check your progress on this whenever you're on the Main Menu → History → Game Over.

The Scissorwalker Appears
You encountered the Scissorwalker

Story-related and cannot be missed.

Scissorwalker is the stalker of the game and you will encounter him several times over the course of the game. This trophy will unlock in Chapter 1, after you speak to Harry several times in front of the vending machines and trigger a cutscene with him.

Face Your Fears
You succeeded in resisting the Scissorwalker

Story-related and cannot be missed (I think).

Generally, when the Scissorwalker catches up to you/finds you in a generic hiding spot (like a closet; anywhere where you have to play the breathing minigame with the heart in the ring), it's not an automatic death. Instead, you'll enter a QTE – mash and and if the ring turns blue you will successfully fight him off, giving you a chance to run away. The trophy will unlock this way.

In Chapter 1, Scene 2, you will find a body in a storage room locker, which will summon Scissorwalker. Running out of the storage room and turning right will bring you to a lobby area with a fire extinguisher. Picking up the fire extinguisher will cause Monica to spray the Scissorwalker, forcing it to retreat. This is something you need to do en route to the true ending and I assume would also unlock this trophy.

Rock Paper Scissors
You succeeded in chasing off the Scissorwalker

Story-related and cannot be missed.

Right after unlocking The Scissorwalker Appears, you will be chased. Walk/run all the way down the corridor (pressing will show how close the Scissorwalker is to you) and turn the corner to come across a shopping area. Hide behind the counter to trigger a cutscene and unlock this trophy.

The Nightmare Begins
You found an item

Story-related and cannot be missed.

You must use inventory items to solve puzzles to get through the game. Assuming you're trying for the true ending during your initial playthrough, this will be the first trophy you get, when you pick up the book of matches from the bar.

Sacrifice
You were saved by Angie

Put shortly, you need to give the wedding ring from Chapter 1, Scene 1 to Angie in Chapter 3, Scene 5. She is hiding in the clothing store, behind the curtain. Once you've done this, go into the lobby of the movie theater to spawn Scissorwalker. Run back to the clothing store and hide behind the rack of clothes. Angie will sacrifice herself for you and unlock this trophy. If for some reason this doesn't happen, reload the scene and wait for Scissorwalker to be closer to you before you hide in the clothes rack.

If you need a more detailed list to get to this point in the game, you must in order:

  1. Chapter 1, Scene 1 – talk to the man in the bar to learn about his glass eye. Get the matches from the bar and give them to the man, then talk to him until conversation repeats.
  2. Chapter 1, Scene 1 – find the wedding ring in the vending machine
  3. Chapter 1, Scene 2 – send SNS message before exiting via the door atop the bar stairs
  4. Chapter 1, Scene 2 - find body in storage room locker
  5. Chapter 2, Scene 1 – call for help on the radio in the cabin
  6. Chapter 2, Scene 1 – pick up non-stick gloves in the cabin
  7. Chapter 2, Scene 2 – use non-slip gloves when descending the well
  8. Chapter 2, Scene 2 – read the books in the second cabin's loft
  9. Chapter 2, Scene 2 – make SNS post before exiting the second cabin's loft
  10. Chapter 3, Scene 1 – pick up envelope from under Jerome's door after he leaves for the shower
  11. Chapter 3, Scene 2 – give envelope to Jerome
  12. Chapter 3, Scene 3 – find Monica and exhaust conversation with her until she gives you the wedding ring
  13. Chapter 3, Scene 3 – give Eric's antibiotics to Monica (you will also take them when you do this) and exhaust conversation with her until it repeats.
  14. Chapter 3, Scene 4 – turn off life support machine in the hospital room
  15. Chapter 3, Scene 5 – find Angie in the clothing store, give her the wedding ring and get a billiard ball from her in return (you'll need the other two to progress through the game; they're in the bar and in the child's room)
